News and Views

Tech finished mostly higher on Friday, led mostly by semis (SOX +.45%). MRVL +8.4% was a notable gainer after reporting strong results on Thursday after the close. Other outperformers included ATHR +2.8%, BRCM +2.1% and SIMG +2.9%. In business services space CRM finished up 17% (breakout 52 week high) and INTU closed up 15% (again breakout 52 week high) on solid quarterly numbers. On a down side RIMM closed down 3.5% on continued worries over competitiveness in smartphone space and Blackberry service in India; S -1.4% caught a bid late, was close to testing 200day Moving average (4.02) on the downside.

LG Electronics is reportedly planning to launch 10 more smartphones this year, including a high-end Android tablet, which, according to LG’s VP of Marketing “…will be better than the iPad”.
