CMS last night proposed expanded coverage for ventricular assist devices for destination therapy, easing three criteria for reimbursement (peak VO2, medical management, and body size). Soleil notes that CMS did not accept THOR's request to expand VAD coverage to include less sick Class IIIb DT heart failure patients and says this is reflected in current valuation. If finalized, the expanded indications should increase the % of referred DT patients that are eligible and implanted with VADs.
