Once again, it was earnings versus the economy. This seems to be the favored feud these days. Durable Goods for June, a piece of lagging economic data, unexpectedly fell by 1.0%. Expectations were for a gain of 1.0%, so a healthy miss. Unfortunately, this can be a very volatile number. Civilian aircraft orders can and did skew the number, falling 25.6% in June.
